From Europe to South America with love

High temperatures, friendly people and nice beaches… Is there anything better in this world? No… So Brazil had to be my first destination in South America. Brazil is the vibe, the colors and the people.

First stop: Salvador

Why Salvador?

Many people ask me why I picked Salvador, Brazil… I had no special reason (no family, not many friends here) to visit Salvador but when I ‘googled’ places in Brazil I was amazed with Salvador’s beauty.

Salvador is known to be one of the most particular places in Brazil… From the clothes to the skin color and never forgetting the accent. Here everything is different from Europe… AND I guess I was looking for something like that.

Plus, I wanted to make my way down on the map, I mean Rio de Janeiro – São Paulo – Foz de Iguarço – Buenos Aires. So I realized Salvador was the perfect place start.

The flight

After more than 24 hours traveling, I finally made to cross the ocean. And YES: I said 24 hours because I barely spent 1 day among waiting time at the airports, flight time and scales. Before even you asked, there are straight flights to Brazil (of course there are) but again, I am a low budget traveler and sometimes you got sacrificed the body 😀 Plus, I am a lucky one who sleeps almost everywhere so between the scales and the meals I slept the all time. The argentine guy I met in the plane would wake me up to eat and I would fall asleep right after. ahahah

After 3 scales I finally arrived. I got an internal flight from Rio de Janeiro to Salvador and although I was worried for my backpack, everything went ok.

Getting off the plane, I thought about taking a cab… I still remember a Brazilian friend of mine saying: “Ohhh no. Do not walk in Salvador alone. You better take a cab from the airport because it can be dangerous walking around with all your stuff.”

Welcome to Salvador, my friends!!

Believe me, when I saw that message, I thought: well you could have chosen a calmer city to start, Dani!!…”

For the record, a taxi from the airport to the city center is around 80 Reais (around 23€). Buses: you have the Firstclass bus (33 reais) or the public bus (3 reais).

But at the end I just dropped the idea of taxi and with all my courage, I faced Salvador by bus and I walked my way to the hostel with all stuff I had. Those 10 minutes walking might have been the quickest minutes of my life: worried about walking around, heavy with all my stuff, nervous to find the street of my hostel.

When I arrived at the hostel I had the impression to have 5 kg less. I MADE IT

I was sooo happy to be safe.  You know when you feel proud of yourself? That was my feeling when I finally arrived. 😀 Anyway, no jetlag at the end… I think I was so enthusiast to arrive that none and nothing could stop me.

I even had a caipirinha to celebrate my first night in Brazil 😀
