First impressions of Australia

I am new, YES I am new in the country and I know everybody around can see it. I am still a bit lost in the transports, food menus and bla bla bla.

You can read as many books as you want, check everything on Internet, talk to friends and still: there are things will shock you. And that is the funny part of moving to another country as well. Adapting to another culture and getting to know the traditions of the country can be hard at the beginning BUT it is a priceless experience. I always say after Paris everything gets easier… Now, let’s see if I am right.

Bang Bang: MY 1st impressions of the city and the country:

People say hello to each other just with ONE kiss

Yes. Last week I went to a bar to join some friends and when I got there I started saying hello with my usual way: 2 kisses… Weird moment and suddenly one of them just told me: JUST ONE!!  Ok ok, All good: Just one kiss, one will be in Aussie land.

Here, Perfumes are muchhhhhh cheaper than in Europe

I am not kidding! Some brands that we pay in Europe 70€ here cost no more than 30€. It is crazy!!! Apparently, the competition is very high and, as always, wins the one who sells cheaper. Europe, you could do the same.

Houses in Melbourne
Houses in Melbourne

The houses here are like in the USA

I am staying with friends and when the taxi dropped me off in front of the house I was like: I took the wrong plane and taxi and I am actually in the States. The construction, the roads, the houses are sooooo similar: it is crazy!!!

There are more Asians than Australians

It is a joke seriously: BUT there are a lot of Chinese and Indian people in the country. Actually, the Australian government is putting more restrictions for working visas in order to control better the quantity of people entering and staying in the country. If you want to come around, do not wait too long. ahahah

People breath money

I think it is my first time living in a country where everyone seems to have so much money. Everyone has nice cars!!! Last time, I bougth bread with a $50 bill and the lady did not say anything. In Europe people would ask me if I did not have another bill “smaller” and then check if it was not a fake bill. Here it is just normal. ahah

I feel confuse about crossing the road (once again)

I shared with you this feeling already I am confuse with the traffic here. For those who live in the states or in England you might be used to this situation but guys: I am not used to it! And I am f****** confused when I have to cross the road because I never know which side I have to look at (Problems of someone who still does not have much to do).

It is not Summer in Australia all the time

I thought Australia was all about beaches, sun and fun. And then you get here and you understand it is not exactly like that. 🙁 Beaches are not amazing (I have not seen any surfer boys yet) and it is actually very cold. 10ºC is not for me anymore. I am suffering, seriously.

People are happy and smiley

I am not sure if people actually care about each other but at least they smile and they are polite. When you live in a city for 5 years where everybody seems to be against to the world and where everyone complains about everything – Yes Paris, your people are like that – : it is different! AND for now I LIKE IT.

I am sure this is just the beginning. If you have been here and noticed other things, let me know. 😀 I want to know everything about your experience…

Keep following the adventures.
